WINTER IN WHITEFISH

Whitefish and the Flathead Valley are a winter wonderland! Winter months provide a number of activities to keep even the most adventurous family happy. When you tire of the great outdoors, lounge in the village or bum the shops in town.

DOWNHILL SKIING

Start at the North end of Flathead Valley for some world-class skiing at the Whitefish Mountain Resort (Big Mountain).  Tour the backcountry on snowshoes or cross-country skis or stick to the miles and miles of groomers on your snowboard, alpine or telemark skis.

Blacktail Mountain Ski Area is on the South end of the Flathead Valley and covered with snow. Runs are a bit shorter, but so are the lines.

CROSS COUNTRY SKIING

Whitefish Golf Course turns into the Glacier Nordic Center in the winter, with 9 miles of touring trails good for cross-country or skate skiing.

SNOWSHOEING

In Winter, visit Glacier Park and take part in a ranger-led snowshoe walk. Mid-January thru mid-March, on Saturday or Sunday, meet at the Apgar center for this free, two-hour program of learning and discovery. More

SNOWMOBILING

With more than two hundred miles of groomed snowmobile trails in our area, there is much to explore! Bring your own machines or rent snowmobiles locally.

WHITEFISH WINTER CARNIVAL

Yetis, penguins, ski-journing, and more; it is all at the Whitefish Winter Carnival. Spanning two weeks in January, this event is a must do when in the area! A down-home country event described as “wonderful weirdness”.

DOG SLEDDING

Explore the woods and waterways of Northwest Montana by dog sled! Be led through the forest by a team of trained Alaskan Huskies along with their trainer and guide. Learn about the dogs, the sleds, and the terrain. A special way to spend a day. Learn more.
